It dawned bright and cold on the 15th of December, and though the weather forecast said there may be snow later, it hadn't moved in yet. The stands were packed with HOL students as Gryffindor and Slytherin got ready to play their first game of the year against each other.
For Gryffindor, it would be an interesting game. Three first years would be playing, although Joel Aireserkeiel and Drew Potter had played a game before. It was a first time appearance for second year Zenix James and first year Barbara Phoenix, debuting in the chaser position, alongside veteran Seven Ashitaka. Rounding out the team were veterans Missa Matz as keeper and Jenny Lupin as seeker.
The game started off swiftly, with Xavier Dalen grabbing the quaffle off the toss up and passing it to Opal Curare, who took it straight to the goal only to be blocked by Missa Matz. The quaffle then went to Seven Ashitaka, who scored on Slytherin's keeper Belle Lestrange, opening the game with a 10 to 0 lead for Gryffindor.
The score fluctuated for a few plays, with the lead exchanging hands until Ashitaka scored his third goal for Gryffindor, pulling them ahead 30 to 20 - a quaffle lead that they would not relinquish. The next time Slytherin scored it made the margin 60 for Gryffindor and 30 for Slytherin. This was after a string of fantastic saves for Belle Lestrange versus Seven Ashitaka, and an excellent display of beating for Drew Potter.
That last goal marked a period of play that may go down as one of the best displays of beating a Gryffindor team has ever done. Between Joel Aireserkeiel and Drew Potter, the next 14 times the Slytherin chasers got the quaffle, they were blocked before they could even get to the goal. During this time second year and first time quidditch player Zenix James of Gryffindor scored two fantastic goals, giving Gryffindor 80 points and enlarging the lead further. This streak finally ended, when Xavier Dalen, with some great displays of flying, managed to slip past Gryffindor's defense and score, bringing the game to 80 points for Gryffindor and 40 points for Slytherin. It has been said that Missa Matz got bored and started listening to NEWS music - but that has not been confirmed. Luckily she did manage to block the next attempt at goal.
At that point it was time for the Gryffindor first years to shine. In an amazing display of agility, Barbara Phoenix scored two goals in a row to bring the score to 90 for Gryffindor and 40 for Slytherin. Congratulations BaPo, on your first quidditch points. The game continued back and forth, with all the action between Seven Ashitaka and Belle Lestrange. The score was 130 Gryffindor, 50 Slytherin, when Faye Roderick of Slytherin managed to catch the snitch. With that the game ended, Gryffindor 130 points and Slytherin 100 points, earning Gryffindor their second win of the season. Special congratulations go to Belle Lestrange, for MVP, blocking 67% of all 39 shots that came her way.
GQT looks forward to seeing many people in the stands as they battle against Ravenclaw on the 23rd of February.
