Out ‘N About
with Leaping Lena

Hello There! My name is Lena, Leaping Lena, if you’d like to be more specific. It’s my job to leap around to all of the forums and find out what’s going on in Gryffindor. That way, I can keep you updated on all the fun activities for you to participate in, and you won’t have to miss a thing! If there is something going on next month you would like to see highlighted, or you have something for me to eat, just write to me at arianna@gryff.net.

This month, I noticed there are a lot of point opportunities for students to take advantage of. While taking my daily frolic I stopped by the Lion’s Den (It’s my favorite place to look for things to do, ya know). There were bulletins posted up all over the place! A few in particular caught my eye…

A particularly tasty contest flyer was the one advertising the Getting into HP Contest. You can find more information here but the basic idea is to write an essay (of at least 200 words) about how you first discovered Harry Potter. All entries must be posted on this thread and your post will earn you 10pts! They will also put your story in your HOL yearbook where everyone can see it. That’s almost as good as a huge helping of eucalyptus leaf salad!

If essays are not your forte, there was also a poster up for The Orange Contest 2004 (Orange flavored parchment, also very yummy). It’s being organized and ran by Gryffindor Prefects Eowyn McCuill and Moiraine Lee who have posted the information for it here. To enter, get out your paper and crayons (or mouse and paint program) and draw a picture of your HOL character or any of the HOL staff. Prof. P. S. Black was posing for portraits in the Common Room. If you hurry, you might still be able to catch her. You can earn 5pts for each drawing you submit (limit 3). All entries are due by March 4th, so don’t wait too long!

For the first time this past month, the Paw print has started offering points for submissions! What a novel idea! This month you can earn 5 or more points for a story about a scene of transition or you could write a poem about the shamrock, as well! Submissions should be sent to Mirabella Nevlómë at mirabella_nevlome@yahoo.com (before March 2nd) on alfalfa, lemongrass, mint, or parsnip flavored parchments… What? You don’t have any of those? I guess any time is ok then, though the tastier the better. More information is available on the HOL forum here and at the Gryff Common Room here.

Speaking of Parsnips, have you checked out the Pungent Parsnips section of the Common Room? Although it’s not for points, you can find all kinds of yummy snacks there. It’s my favorite section by far. Why don’t you add your own recipe to the list? Next time I come through, I’ll make sure to try it out! After bouncing around the Lions Den all day, I was starting to get a little tired, so I headed back to the Gryffindor Dorms. ‘Lo and behold, there is more going on there! The Gryffindor Challenge has made its way to Gryff.net. The money you earning in the dorms allows you to be able to buy things, trade etc, and go through several challenges while you do it. Visit the new web site (here) for updates and contest information, where you can win wizard money and take advantage of the features of the dorms. Don’t forget to read the Dorm announcements for the latest information!

Wow, all of this leaping about and eating today has made me tired. I know this is not even close to all of the things going on right now, but some of the fun is in finding them yourself. Some good places are the Lions' Broadcasting Network, Lions Den and the Gryffindor Dorms… I really am… tired…
