After a strong first game, (where the team unveiled their amazing new rookies) the GQT realized that the road would get a much rougher as the season wore on. They no longer had an element of surprise on their side, and the next game was going to be against Ravenclaw, who had been training hard for the cup this year.
The game opened with referee Kelsey Willow launching the quaffle in the air. Immediately after the launch, however, one of the bludgers came around and caught her broom in the tail. However, she was still able to keep an eye on the game, even if her broom needed a fixing.
Ravenclaw captain Matt Whisp swooped in to the Gryffindor zone, only to be fended off by GQT beater Merlinda Gandore (who is free of her rabies). Selena Astralis quickly recovered the quaffle for Gryffindor, but was soon blocked by formidable Eagle October Jackson. Right off the bat, the teams looked like they were gonna play one heck of a game.
Whisp opens the scoring first, putting a quaffle past Kailani Loire. Gryffindor captain Seven Ashitaka immediately answers back with a goal of his own, and thanks to a brilliant block-pass by Gandore, is able to pot another one to make it 20-10 for the GQT.
The action picks up with great defensive play by both Ravenclaw beaters Cassandra Lobiesk and Tinuviel Undomiel, as well as GQT beaters Gandore and rookie Nivek Skytook (also known as Fancy). The keepers on both teams displayed an amazing amount of skill, with highlight saves all over the reel. Moved up to chaser for this game, GQT rookie Arianna Diamth was stoned after an amazing deke into the scoring area.
Soon, Whisp was so into the trying to catch up and pull ahead that he didn’t notice a bludger flying in his general direction. Clocking him in the head and knocking him off his broom, the Eagles were now a player down, but still determined. Eagle chaser Kimaire Seloiro quickly nabbed the quaffle and potted a goal to make the game 20-20.
Whisp finally returns to the game, still a little dizzy. Ashitaka is able to pot a goal while he’s still recovering, but Whisp immediately grabs the quaffle to even the score at 30-30. Ashitaka then pots another to put Gryffindor up 40-30 and after two spectacular saves on both ends, another bludger catches Whisp unaware.
Ashitaka takes this time to launch an offense on Ravenclaw. With a few quick passes from Selena Astralis, Ashitaka is able to put up two more goals. Gryffindor’s seeker for the game, Missa Matz, pulls off an amazing wronski feint on her opponent Leah Samson, giving Gryffindor a morale boost. The beaters for GQT stave off the Gryffindor offense, denying Ryan Lobiesk a chance to reach the scoring area. Their defensive play allows Ashitaka to puts in another goal. Diamth then gives Gryffindor a 80-30 lead with a goal of her own before Whisp makes it 80-40.
Soon, all eyes were on Matz and Samson, as it was obvious the game would be decided by them. Samson had made an amazing recovery from the feint earlier, however Matz had already seen the snitch and was flying off towards it. Before Samson could catch up, Matz had the golden ball in her hands, and Gryffindor won the game 130-40.
The committee ended up picking Kailani Loire as the MVP for her great performance in goal for the GQT. The game lasted just a little under an hour.
