This month the Creative Quill received one amazing submission! The challenge was: "April Showers" - Write a 100+ word story about being caught in an unexpected rainstorm. Bonus points if you can work in the phrase, "Well, butter my bum and call me biscuit!"

"April Showers"
by Maggie McGravin

It was the middle of April and Maggie McGravin as outside playing along with her best friend in Gryffindor, Ella Chambers. They were just playing along in the sun, when much to their surprise, off in the East, black clouds started to form on the horizon. I scared them a little, and both were compelled to run away in to the Gryffindor Common Room for safety, but Maggie stopped and grabbed Ella’s arm to keep her from running away.

“Wait! Ella, stop, I want to watch.”

“Why?” cried Ella over the thunder.

“Because I love the rain and thunderstorms.”

Maggie and Ella held back to watch as the storm approached at amazing speed. Sooner than they could imagine, it started pouring rain. They could do nothing but stand there. It was like their feet couldn’t move, but, they could still speak.

“Well, butter my bum and call me biscuit!” Yelled Maggie

“Why can’t we move?” Ella shouted over the pouring rain, booming in her ears.

“I have no idea, must be something about magic.”

“Duh Maggie, we’re at Hogwarts!”

They stood there, still amazed that they couldn’t move, and tried to think of some sort of spell that could uproot their feet.

“I’ve got it!” Cried Ella “we can use the severing charm on the mud, and maybe it will move it out of the way, and we will be able to move again!

Together they uttered the severing charm, and much mud and guck hit them in the face, causing them not to see very much. Maggie tried to move her feet.

“It worked!” she cried, “I can move!”

“Great!” Ella replied

Together they ran up the marble staircase in the entrance hall, and up the other seven flights of stairs to get to the Gryffindor Common Room. Soon they were safe in their dorm rooms, and ready to go to sleep after the crazy spell that had just befallen them.
