This month in the Creative Quill, the theme was spring! It seems as if all of our students are dreaming of that wonderful time of year when the flowers bloom and everything is green again! And this month's entries reflected those thoughts of everlasting beauty.

1st place - Cho Wood

Spirit

"Heavens, it's freezing! It's ice cold in here!
The storm isn't easing, spring is nowhere near...
65, 64, still way too many days
Until I can try out my new Quidditch plays"
He wraps his cloak tighter round his numb self
Eyeing the Firebolt lying idly on his shelf
She nods in approval, but has different thoughts;
Stressed from being every second in twelve different spots
For this pupil, exams are never nice,
Especially when going through each exam day twice.
She sighs, staring out he common room windowpane,
But for the third of this pack, there is no study pain.
He's not into pulling out his red locks for some test
He knows better than to start getting too stressed
The trio skim through their books, not making a sound,
As the chilly snowflakes flutter onto the ground.

"46, 45," counts the young superstar
As he crosses of the days of his calendar
"Still so many weeks-" "But at least exams are dome,"
Says the brunette with relief. "Let's go have some fun."
"C'mon, Harry, have a chocolate, you'll feel a bit better,"
Coaxes the freckled boy, ripping the sweet from a Valentine leer.
The other scratches his scarred forehead, rising to his friend
"It could be worse," he agrees, "we could have singing dwarves again."

"16, 15, springtime is soooooo near,"
The bespectacled boys grins. "Is it a wee warm in here?"
The Muggle-born nods, "I wish it were colder,"
S she lifts her bushy hair off of her shoulder.
"It's boiling in here," remarks the redhead
he shrugs off his vest, dropping it onto the bed.
"Too bad we're not Irish," he says with a scoff
"That way we could have taken the day off."

"6, 5," loosening his tie, the raven haired Seeker is beaming
Through the half-drawn blinds, the golden sun is streaming
His face bathes in the rays, heart light as a feather-
Who knew how much joy could be brought on by weather?

Yet it is true, when the snow starts to trickle away,
And the sun and blue skies come back out to play,
When you find yourself rolling up your uniform sleeves,
or marvelling at Mother nature, with her new buds and leaves.

When on the air is the sweet chorus of a hummingbird,
And the wind breathes through your soul with each note heard
When each morning greets you with a promise of dawn
And crisp dewdrops on each blade of your front lawn

And when the moon arises to christen the night sky
With twinkling stars to set your dreams like a mother's lullaby,
Then, and only then, shall you truly receive her,
The blessing, the treasure, the Spirit of Spring Fever.

2nd Place - Joelle Pendragon

The sun is out
The flowers peep
The air is warmer
Raindrops leap

The mood changes
We feel civility
This brand new feel
Gives a sense of tranquility

The sky seems to smile
As the children play
Enjoying a fresh, new
Lovely spring day

Businessmen and farmers
Peasants and kings
Each one of us can feel
The joy of spring

3rd Place - Samantha Wanzo

"Out on the beach"

Down at the beach
I can always be myself.
I sit and stare at the waves.
It's good for my heath.

Without it I'd be lost
A peice torn from my soul.
Like I can't get out
I'm forever stuck in a hole.

When I'm there I'm free
The sun is always shining
it's my favorite place to be.

The Creative Quill would like to thank everyone who sent in an entry and congratulate this month's winners!
